Can you make a portfolio website with Wix?
Yes. Wix has more than 270 portfolio templates. Some of them come with Wix Portfolio, Wix's app for showing your work as…
You can use Wix for free, and the free plan has no time limit. The paid plans cost €16.66 to €177.31 a month, and that's the price when you pay for a whole year at once. Light, at €16.66, gives you your own domain without the Wix bar. Core, at €29.75, is the cheapest plan that takes payments, so you need it as soon as customers book or buy online.
For my Wix review, I built a website for a made-up dance school on the free plan. This time I opened the upgrade page for that site to see what it would cost with online bookings. I also checked what you pay on top of the plan.
I checked the prices on Wix's plans page and in the dance school's dashboard on October 24, 2026, from Germany. Wix showed them in euros with 19% VAT included. Wix shows local prices, so other countries see other amounts.
The plans page shows the monthly price for yearly billing, and Wix charges the whole year when you buy. Monthly billing costs more. If you pay for two years at once, it costs less.
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | Billed every two years | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | €0 | €0 | A wixsite.com address with the Wix bar on every page |
| Light | €16.66a month, €199.92 a year | €22.61a month | €14.87a month, €356.88 for two years | Your own domain without the Wix bar, 2 GB of storage |
| Core | €29.75a month, €357 a year | €35.70a month | €26.77a month, €642.48 for two years | Payments for bookings and shop orders, 50 GB of storage |
| Business | €40.46a month, €485.52 a year | €49.98a month | €36.89a month, €885.36 for two years | Automatic sales tax for 100 transactions a month, 100 GB of storage |
| Business Elite | €177.31a month, €2,127.72 a year | €189.21a month | €124.95a month, €2,998.80 for two years | Unlimited storage and priority customer care |
A plan covers only one site. Two sites on Wix need two plans, according to Wix's help center.
On yearly billing, Core costs €357 for the year. If you pay month by month, it's €35.70 a month, or €428.40 over a year. Wix's upgrade page says that yearly billing saves €71 compared with monthly billing, and two years save €214.
Only yearly and two-year plans come with a free domain for the first year. With monthly billing, you pay for the domain from the start.
Plans renew by themselves. Wix charges yearly and two-year plans up to three weeks before they run out, and it starts sending reminder emails 30 days before the payment. Monthly plans renew without an email first, according to Wix's help center.
There's no free trial of the paid plans. Instead, Wix gives you your money back if you cancel within 14 days of your first plan purchase. Renewals and upgrades don't get that. If you only want to stop the plan from renewing, wait until the 14 days are over. Turning off the renewal before that cancels the plan right away.
The free domain only covers the first year. For the dance school, Wix suggested cobblewaydanceschool.com and showed €11.78 a year, crossed out because the first year would be free. The info icon next to it says that the domain renews at €25.40 a year. The .de address renews at €17.79, the same price Wix showed for it. Wix also says that taxes and privacy fees may apply at checkout.
The free domain is a voucher for a new domain bought from Wix. It doesn't renew or extend a domain you already own.
Wix's plan comparison lists a fee on pricing plans, which is what Wix calls memberships and passes. On Core, Wix takes 4% of each sale. Business has a fee of 2%, and Business Elite has none. For the dance school's 10-class pass at €150, that's €6 per pass on Core. Ticket sales for events have a 2.5% commission on all plans that can sell tickets.
Card payments have a fee of their own. With Wix Payments, each card payment costs 1.9% plus €0.30 in the EU, or 2.9% plus $0.30 in the US, according to Wix's help center. If you refund a payment, you don't get that fee back. Cash at the studio has no fee, but even cash payments need a paid plan.
An email address at your own domain is another subscription. Wix sells it through Google Workspace and shows the offer only once a domain is connected, so I couldn't see a price on the free plan.
The dance school takes class bookings and sells a class pass, so it needs Core. On yearly billing, that's €357 in the first year, with the domain included. From the second year, the plan costs €357 and the .com domain €25.40, so €382.40 a year. For each pass sold online, Wix also takes €6, plus the card fee.
Light would cost €199.92 a year, but it can't take bookings or sell the pass.
Wix runs sales on its plans from time to time. When I tested Wix on October 12, the upgrade page offered 50% off all plans except Light for three days, on yearly and two-year billing. Core would then have cost €14.87 a month for the first year. The discount only covered the first billing period, and after that the plan renews at the regular price. On October 24 there was no sale.
You can build the whole site on the free plan and pay only when it should go live with your own domain. My article Is Wix free? shows what the free plan can and can't do.
If you can, pay yearly. On Light and Core it costs €71 less than monthly billing, and the domain is free for the first year. Two years cost less again, but for Core that's €642.48 up front. From the second year, add the domain renewal to your budget.
