Will AI Grow the Pie or Just Hand It to Fewer People?
I think AI makes the economy a bit more productive, but so far it mostly changes who gets the money. The pie…
Anthropic now merges over 30,000 code changes a day, up from around 2,500 in May. It says so in an engineering post on October 13 about replacing Git, because Git couldn't keep up. "At Anthropic, coding is no longer the bottleneck," the post says, and "the latent demand for merging code is practically infinite."
Nobody reads 30,000 changes a day. The team behind the post writes that they "examine the intent of the change as opposed to reading every line of code." Claude does the rest of the reviewing. The head of Claude Code told Fortune in June that Claude Code is "100% written by Claude Code."
You can see the result in Claude Code itself. This week it showed me an edit it never made. One session ran sleep while another agent edited a file in the same repository. When the sleep finished, my terminal showed that file as "Updated", with the diff, right under the sleep. Claude Code lists each file that changed while a command ran, no matter who changed it. Anthropic's (or rather Claude Code's very own) fix in version 2.1.293 was to reword a note so it says the list "can include writes by other processes."
So the reviewer at Anthropic who only checks the intent sees "show the files a command changed" and lets it through. At 30,000 merges a day you get a lot of features and a lot of bugs like this one.
Give Vroni a GitHub issue, bug report, spec, or rough idea. It reads the repo, plans the change, writes code, runs checks, and works toward a review-ready pull request.
