Can you make a portfolio website with Wix?
Yes. Wix has more than 270 portfolio templates. Some of them come with Wix Portfolio, Wix's app for showing your work as…
Yes. Wix has a free plan with no time limit, and you don't need a credit card to sign up. For my Wix review, I built a whole website for a made-up dance school on the free plan and published it without paying anything. You pay when you want your own domain or want to get rid of the Wix bar. The cheapest paid plan costs €16.66 a month on yearly billing. To take bookings and payments online, you need Core at €29.75 a month.
I built the site on October 12, 2026, and checked the plans and prices again on October 22, 2026.
On its plans page, Wix lists a free plan for €0 next to the four paid plans, with "No credit card required" under its name. You sign up with an email address and a password, or with an account you already have, for example at Google. Wix didn't ask me for a card at any point.
Wix's AI, Aria, built the first version of the dance school site from a short description. After that I rewrote the texts and changed the photos. I also set up class bookings and a small shop. You can see each step in my Wix review.
Publishing took one click and a few seconds. Wix first offered to connect a domain of my own. Without one, the site went live at cobblewaydance.wixsite.com/dance-school. Free sites show a "Built on Wix Harmony" bar at the top of every page, and the browser tab shows the Wix icon instead of your own. Ten days later, on October 22, the site was still online on the free plan.
The contact form also works on the free plan. Messages from it arrived by email after about a minute.
Wix says there is no time limit on free sites. According to its help center, a free site gets 500 MB of storage and 1 GB of bandwidth. One account can hold up to 999 free sites. Hosting is included, and the site loads over HTTPS. Chatting with Aria is free. Other AI tools use credits, and the free plan gets 30 credits a day, at most 120 a month.
Your own domain needs a paid plan. For the dance school, Wix suggested cobblewaydanceschool.com for €11.78 a year, with the first year free on any paid plan with yearly billing. If you buy only the domain, Wix warns that you can't connect it to the site without a paid plan.
All paid plans remove the Wix bar and the Wix icon in the browser tab.
Taking payments needs Core or a bigger plan, and that includes online bookings and shop orders. On the free plan, visitors to the dance school could see the classes and the products. They couldn't book anything, not even the free trial lesson, and the checkout stopped with "We can't accept online payments".
Google Analytics and 24/7 support also need a paid plan, and so do file upload fields in forms.
I checked the prices on Wix's plans page and in the dashboard on October 22, 2026, from Germany. Wix showed them in euros with 19% VAT included. Other countries see other amounts.
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | €0 | A wixsite.com address, the Wix bar on every page, 500 MB of storage, no payments |
| Light | €16.66a month, €199.92 a year | €22.61a month | Your own domain (free for the first year on yearly billing), no Wix bar, 2 GB of storage |
| Core | €29.75a month, €357 a year | €35.70a month | Payments, online bookings and shop checkout, 50 GB of storage |
| Business | €40.46a month, €485.52 a year | €49.98a month | More shop and marketing tools, 100 GB of storage |
| Business Elite | €177.31a month, €2,127.72 a year | €189.21a month | Unlimited storage, advanced shop and developer tools |
Two-year billing is a little cheaper again, for example €14.87 a month for Light and €26.77 for Core.
The paid plans have no free trial. Instead, Wix gives you your money back within 14 days of your first plan purchase, according to its help center. Renewals and upgrades don't get that.
The free plan is enough to try Wix and to build your whole site before you pay anything. It also works for a hobby site, where the Wix address and the bar don't matter. For a business, plan for at least Light, because you'll want your own domain. Once customers should book or pay online, you need Core.
