OpenAI Added 1M Users in a Day. Fable Is Still in Limbo.
OpenAI says Codex and ChatGPT Work went from 6 million to 7 million active users in roughly 24 and a half hours.
The number combines Codex and ChatGPT Work, but still: one million more users in one day is a hell of a number.
The update landed during a rough weekend. People were burning usage absurdly fast. OpenAI temporarily removed the five-hour restriction, reset accounts, reversed some bad context behavior, and said it was fixing multi-agent overuse.
Meanwhile, Anthropic's best model is still parked behind a help-center countdown.
Fable's promotion now runs until July 19. After July 19, Fable is out of the included weekly plan and usage credits take over.
I do not think the OpenAI number caused the extension. Maybe the two events are not connected at all. But the contrast is brutal. OpenAI had a launch wobble and tried to give people more room to use its product. Anthropic has the high-end model but no clear strategy.
